The Perks of Being the President

As Bronislaw Komorowski prepares to enter take office as the president of Poland, he can expect prestige, for sure, but also splendid living accommodation though comparatively modest salary. The president of Poland’s wages amount to 18,500 zloty (4,500 euro) and the budget of the Chancellery of the President of Poland in 2010 totals 160 million zloty (almost 40 million euro). Komorowski and his family will live in the Presidential Palace in the centre of Warsaw. Three bedrooms, three cabinets, a private garden, a chapel and numerous representative rooms are available for the presidential couple. Real estate expert Tomasz Turek estimates that a monthly cost of the 2,000 square-metre presidential apartment is 62,000 zloty (15,000 euro) or even three times higher. (thenews.pl)

    For me presidential salary is not too modest. Polish president is not responsible for lawmaking. Of course president has to approved all new law acts, but let’s be truth, president in Poland has only representative function. Polish president can live for free in the presidential palace. Monthly cost of presidential apartment is too high. Of course the president must have a certain prestige. It is the most representative office in Poland, so budget of of the Chancellery of the President is quite high, however in my opinion it is necessary. But in my opinion presidential salary is enough and it should not be increase.
