Poland’s Election Scandal

I’d like to introduce to you to a rather twisted election situation that happened in Poland. The Poles were waiting for the presidential election which was to take place on 10th May, unfortunately, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Polish government was not prepared for such complications. There were many ideas on how to deal with this problem, yet none of them was realized by the ubiquitous chaos.

The first solution to the problem announced by the ruling party was to hold correspondence elections, which means that every inhabitant of Poland entitled to vote was to receive a ballot paper by mail and then the postman would collect the results. There have been a number of inconsistencies with this approach to the subject. Firstly, postmen could interfere with the number of votes. And if this argument is not convincing, the fact that the COVID-19 can be spread on paper cannot be overlooked. Due to people’s panic caused by the fear of being infected by the virus and the shortcomings of the government, the expected elections were not held. However, this leaves us with one problem, which is that the government invested 20 million zlotys in printing ballots for elections that did not take place. As in Polish politics, it makes no sense to look for the guilty party because the ruling party blames the opposition and the opposition blames the ruling party.

I believe that this whole situation could be solved if both the rulers and the opposition focused on the security of the citizens and not on coming to power and pulling the dirty on each other. I believe that the biggest problem for our politicians is their unwillingness to discuss.

Do you think that the ruling party should be punished for throwing public money away? Maybe you have some idea that would solve the whole problem. Have your say!

The election situation in Poland is quite difficult now, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I believe that it was irresponsible for the government to throw 20 million zlotys away without thinking this through. In my opinion the government cannot afford to make such mistakes, especially when people’s health is at stake. Maybe it was someone’s plan in order to sabotage the election or accuse someone of it. Anyway, it is not the decent method to hold elections. So, the government should come together and figure out a way to do it so that nobody would be able to interfere with the number of votes and everything is democratic and fair. And also I think that it is necessary to investigate the issue of spending public money with no purpose.
